FROM AN ARTISANAL WORKSHOP

Xhevdet Tufa
“Xhoda”

1951 — 2021

The Tufa family is part of Lundër’s winemaking story. Xhevdet Tufa (Xhoda), 1951–2021, founded Tufa Winery as an artisanal workshop with his sons, united by a shared passion for the land and wine.

Later, his second son expanded this family tradition. Through hard work, love and dedication, he developed the workshop into the Tufa Winery we know today, carrying his father’s legacy forward.

Today, the winery continues to grow, bringing together wine and architecture, contemporary practices and local character. Its connection to the land and hills of Lundër remains at the heart of that story.

02 / OUR PLACE

Lundër.
Our roots.

Among vineyard-covered hills lies Lundër, a village with a long history and fertile land for growing grapes. In the heart of the Farkë area, near Tirana, viticulture is part of everyday life and local identity.

Care for the land and a passion for wine have passed from one generation to the next. Tufa Winery stands amid this greenery, closely connected to the place and people that give it character.

03 / A LITTLE HISTORY

Land, memory
and craft.

The legend of Lundër

According to a local legend, this hilly landscape once included lakes where residents travelled in small boats, known as lundra. When the waters receded, the boats remained in local memory and, the story goes, gave the village its name: Lundër.

Farkë and its hills

Farkë’s history is associated with settlements dating to the end of the Iron Age. Pottery and ironworking were among the area’s early crafts; the name Farkë is also associated with the work of blacksmiths.

Around 7 kilometres southeast of Tirana, along the Tirana–Elbasan road, the area lies between Dajti to the east, Petrelë to the south and Vaqar to the west. The passage between Dajti and Priskë provides natural ventilation, while air from the sea, roughly 30 kilometres away in a straight line, moves through the hills and influences the grapes’ character.

The harvest as a shared tradition

In Lundër’s tradition, wine was made by pressing grapes and stored in clay vessels fired in wood-burning kilns. Decorations depicting the sun, moon, stars and grapevine expressed life and continuity.

Harvesting and winemaking brought residents together to work and teach their craft to younger generations. The story of wine became intertwined with the stories of the families who kept that tradition alive.

04 / WHAT WE CARRY FORWARD

From one generation
to the next.

I.

Heritage

Across generations, the Tufa family has preserved the cultivation of Shesh i Bardhë and Shesh i Zi from Tirana. These native Albanian grape varieties carry the history of their homeland and stand out for their character.

Working with experienced winemakers helps the winery improve production and preserve authenticity, combining family knowledge with contemporary practices.

II.

Purpose

Our purpose is to protect and promote Albania’s wine heritage, preserving the originality and craftsmanship that define us.

We want to pass on a culture of work and an understanding of the importance of protecting the land and natural resources. Care for the environment and quality is part of the name we hope to leave to future generations.

III.

Vision

Our vision is to strengthen Tufa Winery’s position in the Albanian market by bringing tradition and innovation together. Improving production methods draws on experience and international collaboration.

The future is tied to preserving wine culture, building an appreciation of quality and supporting sustainable development. Each wine aims to express the family’s dedication, care and the trust we build every day.
